Ignoring Routine Maintenance on Your Garage Door Could Cost
The outside of your house is probably almost as important to you as the inside is, but we know that you spend much more time cleaning the inside than the outside. As you are preparing your spring cleaning list this year, we want you to consider adding your garage door to the list. Your garage door is exposed to the elements every single day of the year and that is a lot of sun, rain, wind, sand, and more.
If any sand, dirt, or oil build-up on your garage door, you may find that these materials end up in the tracks as the door is opening and closing. Oil and dirt can cause mechanical issues and your garage door may stop opening over time.
To remove all of the dirt, sand, oil, and anything else that may have become stuck to your garage door, we recommend that you give it a good cleaning at least once a year. The perfect time to do this is the spring, since the temperatures are cooler and the hurricanes haven’t started yet.
Cleaning Your Garage Door
The materials that you will need to clean your garage door are:
- Dish soap
- Rag or soft brush
- A bucket filled with water
- A hose to rinse the door off
First, you will need to mix some dish soap into the bucket that is filled with water. After that is mixed together, you will want to hose off your garage door to make it wet. Dip your rag into the bucket and begin washing the door. It is best if you start on the top left and work your way across and down. This allows any dirty water and loose debris to fall down onto the parts that are still dirty.
Once you have scrubbed the entire door, you will want to rinse all of the soap off with the hose. It is important to make sure that all of the soap is off, so that the paint or other finish does not wear off.
